Today's tip is a short one and one that many of you probably already know about, but for those that haven't heard of Still Tasty, I thought it was an invaluable resource. http://www.stilltasty.com/
When you visit the site it lets you type in a food. For instance if you typed in bananas, here is the list that you would get:
Baked Goods
* BANANA BREAD — FRESHLY BAKED
* BANANA CREAM PIE — HOMEMADE OR BAKERY-PURCHASED
* MUFFINS (INCLUDING BRAN, BLUEBERRY, BANANA, CORN, CHOCOLATE CHIP) — FRESHLY BAKED
Beverages
* BANANA LIQUEUR, COMMERCIALLY BOTTLED — UNOPENED OR OPENED
Fruits
* BANANAS — FRESH, RAW, CUT UP
* BANANAS — FRESH, RAW, WHOLE
* BANANAS, DRIED — UNOPENED OR OPENED PACKAGE
Herbs & Spices
* BANANA EXTRACT, IMITATION, COMMERCIALLY BOTTLED — UNOPENED OR OPENED
Vegetables
* BANANA PEPPERS — FRESH, RAW, SLICED OR CHOPPED
* BANANA PEPPERS — FRESH, RAW, WHOLE
By clicking on Bananas - fresh, raw cut up it will show you how long they should last in the Fridge (3-4 days) or in the Freezer (2-3 months). It will also give you tips on better storage, etc. For example it says that you should store cut bananas wrapped in plastic wrap or in an airtight container. Give it a try - especially if you are worried about an ingredient.
