We've been keeping busy...

So besides staring at a cute baby (photos at the end...), and trying to spend some time with my other son, what has been keeping me away from blogging? Well, I'll tell you. Let's start with the fact that the first 4 weeks of our little one's life have been eventful! We've been to the doctor every week since he's been born!
Week 1 - I was having pain in my calf just under my knee, which can be a sign of a blood clot, so the OB said to come in and they'd see me (no appointment, just come when I could get there...) Luckily it was nothing, except a drive to the clinic (which was 40 minutes away as the OB I go to comes over to our town one morning a week and I always went to him there...)

Week 2 - The Kiddo's 2 week check-up. He was 1 ounce short of his birth-weight, but other than that looked good. However the doctor told us to come back in 2 weeks (that is this Friday - the 24th.) Not a horrible visit either... I wasn't that worried about his weight, after all... how big of a deal is an ounce?

Week 3 - It became very apparent that the intense baby blues I was experiencing was more than just the baby blues so we went back to the OB (luckily the day he was in the office over here.) You know things aren't normal when the Doctor comes in, asks how you are doing and it's all you can do to keep the flood waters from escaping! I'm now on "happy pills" for postpartum depression. Did you know those pills can take weeks to work?

Week 3 again - We took The Kiddo (and me) to urgent care last Friday (17th) as we suspected he had thrush (and had passed it onto me - not so fun). Well, we were right and we're now being treated for thrush. While it isn't as bad as I thought it would be, giving him medicine 4 times a day is not so fun. When we weighed him this night he'd only gained 2 ounces (in a week... that's when I started worrying about his weight gain!)

Week 4 - We went to the doctor earlier today and he'd gained 4 ounces since the urgent care visit, so that was good!

Now we're not going to have to go back to the doctor (hopefully, unless the thrush doesn't clear up or something else happens, but I'm crossing my fingers!) until my 6 week OB visit (in 2 weeks) and his 2 months appointment (in 5 weeks).

All that on top of the rest of our lives! My in-laws came to spend a weekend with us (actually 1 weekend and 1 night the next weekend). Hubby's super busy at work, plus he's a boyscout leader (for 11-year olds) which keeps him busy. The lack of sleep is catching up with me... actually it did about a week ago. Also it is really hard to type when holding a newborn... however I did test myself and I'm about 30 WPM typing one handed (which I can keep up for 2 minutes ;).

However, I did take time to try my hand at newborn photography... (these are not all I took, just most of the one's I've edited...)

  1. Your son is absolutely adorable and your photos are amazing! The first couple of weeks are never easy, but you have had a rougher time than most. I pray things get easier!

    1. I'm a bit biased but I think he's adorable as well ;). Thanks!
While things have been a bit difficult, I'm just glad that it isn't anything really serious... I don't envy those parents who have babies in the hospital for extended periods of time.

  2. I look at him and can't help noticing how he and his brother look alike. I wish I could come meet him!

    1. Thanks. You know when I take photos I always see the flaws in them... I guess I'm just too much of a perfectionist!
